i love all of the luxuries that come with living alone, that is, until i’m all tucked into bed, hear a strange noise and end up laying awake for hours, terrified of what’s potentially lurking outside my door! a scenario that my fellow single ladies can relate to, i’m sure. so, when blink reached out to see if i’d like to partner with them and give their home security camera system a try, i figured it might be a good way to feel a bit more safe here on my own.
unlike security systems that send you a “we’ve detected a problem at your home” alert with no real explanation, blink records the suspicious activity and sends HD video to your smartphone so you can see exactly what’s causing the problem. and with blink there’s no contract or monthly fees to worry about and no professional installation required. just place your cameras, connect them to your wifi using their smartphone app, and you’re ready to go! I honestly tend to struggle with new technology, but the cameras are small and easy to mount and there’s no ugly wires to deal with, so getting set up was a breeze.
i decided to put one blink camera in my dining room to monitor my front door, and the second camera in my bedroom. I have a pretty big fear about the bogeyman in my backyard, so feeling safe about the sliding glass doors in my bedroom has been very comforting. also, i sometimes leave this door open for lucy to let herself in and out if i’m going to be gone for a while. so being able to use it as a “lucy cam” has also been fun and really reassuring. mostly though, i like being able to open my app wherever i am and see that my house is as i left it, especially before re-entering alone after being away for a while. i’m even thinking about getting a third camera for outside my front door, since a lot of packages in my neighborhood get stolen.
overall, blink seems like a great way for anyone who’s worried about their home or loved ones to have a bit more peace of mind. just simple home protection with awesome video technology that allows you to easily download and save your security videos. plus, cloud storage is free! here’s a video i captured of lucy with one of my cameras:
