i happen to be of the opinion that the bentwood, or thonet chair is one of the more romantic chairs around. i mean, look at those gentle curves, the care that went into each one to get them just right. i can also easily visualize these curvy chairs in cafés all over paris, and even in an old time saloon — some handsome gunslingers seated at them playing a wicked game of poker. okay, maybe i watch too many movies, but you get my drift, right? the thonet bentwood chair simply has a history and i love that. i have two vintage bentwoods paired with some knoll saarinen chairs and i find they mix well with just about any other chair, too. easily compatible these lovely chairs are. so next time you’re considering a few extra chairs as a decorative adornment or additional dining seating, think about getting bent!
